US is likely to hand over helicopters belonging to Afghan Air Force to Ukraine—media

The United States is expected to hand over to Ukraine the Mi-17V5 and Mi-8MTV helicopters that were previously in service with the Afghan Air Force. The first batch will be sent in the spring of 2022. This is reported by Dylan Malyasov, the American columnist of the portal Defense Blog.

It is reported that the United States will provide Ukraine with six helicopters. The fate of about 20 Mi-8/17 helicopters of the Afghan Air Force remains unknown. According to the Danish aviation magazine Scramble, these helicopters were used during the Afghan government's escape to neighboring countries as Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

On November 23, 2021, CNN reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden was considering sending military advisers and weapons that Washington had purchased for Afghanistan, in particular Mi-17 helicopters.
