Holosiivskyi District Court has seized intellectual property rights posed from Internet users when using 426 sites, including GitHub Gist, various media outlets (Russian RBC, Infopressa, Cryptowiki, West Media), LiveJournal (LJ), resources about cryptocurrencies and others.

As reported on the website of the National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization, the decision was made on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely, large-scale fraud, or through illegal transactions using electronics and computer technologies. It is punished with imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years.

Reaction to blocking GitHub and 425 sites in Ukraine

According to Facebook user Iryna Sadovnykova, GitHub is an American service that most IT companies use to synchronize code between programmers and which has been owned by Microsoft since 2018, And its blocked division Gist allows users to share not entire projects, but separate files.

"According to the Court's version, not even the service itself, but its small division committed grand fraud. How did it do it, you can ask? I don’t know it either. Mrs. Judge Plahotniuc [the decision was made by Judge Plahotniuc K.—Ed. ], don't hold back, ban StackOverflow also, I know you want to do it. All IT work in Ukraine is already being paralyzed, why use only these half-measures? ", she wrote.

According to the Board Member of the Internet Association of Ukraine Oleksandr Glushchenko, such a decision is absurd, writes Ain.ua, adding that this is his personal opinion, and not InAU.

"This list includes both a network of "dump tanks" and an attempt to slip quite decent resources. And a complete lack of understanding by the judge or the National Police of the Internet work or even the logic of this process. And it is additionally not clear why telecommunications operators have any property rights posed from users? Maksym Dvorovyi, a lawyer at the public organization Digital Security Laboratory, in turn, believes that the wording about "blocking property rights" is not based on Ukrainian legislation.
