The EU will agree on using Russian assets soon

Foreign ministers of the European Union are actively considering the possibility of using the revenue from frozen Russian assets, and the bloc is approaching a positive decision on this matter.

Quote"On the Immobilized Russian assets, I think I can say that we have a political agreement to finalize work on the basis of the proposal that we tabled in December, focusing on the revenues. For the time being, it is about revenues, about the windfall profits, and I am almost sure that this will be finalized soon," said the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, at a press conference in Brussels.

According to him, discussions at the level of ambassadors are still ahead, but a strong push for this decision is to be taken before the next Foreign Affairs Council.

Earlier, the United States proposed for the Group of Seven countries to confiscate $300 billion of frozen Russian assets to the benefit of Ukraine. The assets in question are those of the Russian Central Bank. The plan is to be agreed upon before the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
