What Russia wants in exchange for peace: Вraft treaty between RF and US

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published the text of the draft Treaty between Russia and the United States on security guarantees, as well as the Agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and NATO member states. The draft contains several paragraphs that relate directly to Ukraine and its integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. This is reported by the Russian MFA.

As previously reported, Moscow demands legal guarantees from the United States that NATO will abandon its intention to admit Ukraine as a member. For instance, Paragraph 4 states that the United States will be obliged "to exclude further expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the eastern direction and to refuse admitting the states that were previously part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics into the alliance."

Moreover, the Kremlin wants to prohibit Washington "from creating military bases on the territory of states that were formerly members of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and that are not members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, to use their infrastructure for conducting any military activity, as well as to develop bilateral military cooperation with them."

Paragraphs 6-7 state that NATO refuses to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine, as well as other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia, and Central Asia.

Quote"The participants that are member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization accept obligations that exclude further NATO expansion, including the joining of Ukraine, as well as other states," the document reads.

Context. US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held talks. In the case of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United States, on behalf of itself and its European partners, warned Putin about a large-scale package of sanctions that would cause significant damage to the Russian economy.
