US devises toolbox of 'very painful' sanctions against Russia—Kuleba

The United States has devised a toolbox of "very painful" sanctions against the Russian Federation capable of inflicting a devastating economic blow in case of its aggression against Ukraine. Russia will lose access to a number of technologies important for its development. This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.

Quote"I cannot disclose all the details because there is work at the finish line on coordinating actions between the United States and its European allies, and it is very important not to compromise it. But it is important that Washington has already made the decision: the United States is ready to use all the power of its economic and financial instruments to pull the plug on the Russian economy and the Russian rich people," Kuleba said.

The Minister stated that U.S/ Secretary of State Antony Blinken had personally assured that the United States is ready to use these and other levers to contain Russia.

Context. Blinken's visit to Ukraine became known only a day before his arrival. After conversation with the Ukrainian authorities, the U.S. Secretary of State will hold talks with representatives of Germany, France, and Great Britain. The meeting, according to Reuters, will focus on the readiness of these countries, together with the United States, to impose serious sanctions against the Russian Federation in case of the conflict escalation on the Ukrainian border. After that, the Secretary of State will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
