US almost unanimously supports Lend-Lease for Ukraine: What Kyiv to get

The US House of Representatives voted almost unanimously in favor of a Lend-Lease bill for Ukraine. 417 deputies voted for, 10 voted against.

221 votes belonged to Democrats and 196 — to Republicans. 10 Republicans voted against. The law was passed after an hour of debates and some amendments, now it must be signed by US President Joe Biden.

What Lend-Lease is and how it will help Ukraine

As The Page has already reported, the Lend-Lease will give expanded powers to the President to provide defense and other assistance to Ukraine in the fight against the Russian invasion under a fast-track procedure.

Such a program was passed for the first time since World War II, when in 1941 it was thanks to it that Franklin Roosevelt was able to supply weapons to Great Britain, but in fact most of the weapons went to the USSR.

At that time Joseph Stalin, who had suffered treason from a former ally of Adolf Hitler, demanded all possible assistance from the West. The new allies met their needs, supplying the defense equipment and other assistance to the territory of Russia.

Under the Lend-Lease program, the USSR got $11 billion in aid. This system allows one to pay for the weapons obtained for many years after the victory, or not pay at all: London, for example, made the last payment 10 years ago.

Among other things, Ukraine will be able to quickly get ammunition, equipment, and food. After the adoption of the act, Biden is obliged within 60 days to establish fast-track procedures for the delivery of defense equipment to Kyiv.

The program, we recall, will remain in effect until October 1, 2022, but can be extended.
