Zelenskyy replaces Commander of TDF: General Tantsiura leads TDF

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees on the dismissal of Yuriy Halushkin, Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the appointment of Ihor Tantsiura to this post. The relevant documents are published on the President's website.

Ihor Tantsiura was previously Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On May 2, Zelenskyy awarded Tantsiura with the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3d class, "for personal courage and selflessness shown in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and loyalty to the military oath."

Context. Territorial Defense Forces as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine appeared shortly before the start of a full-scale war with Russia. TDF units are assigned to their defense areas (coinciding with administrative districts) and perform tasks on this territory. However, by decision of the President, the battalions can be redeployed to other districts of territorial defense and involved in other tasks.
