The Zaporizhzhia NPP has been completely cut off power supply on 3:53 a.m., March 9, 2023. According to Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company, a Russian missile attack cut the last supply line connecting the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant with the Ukrainian energy system.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP has gone into the blackout mode for the sixth time during its occupation.

The fifth and sixths power units have been switched to cold shutdown, and 18 diesel generators were turned on for the plant's own supply. The fuel in stock is enough for 10 days.

Quote"If the off-site power supply to the plant cannot be restored within that time frame, an accident may occur having radiation consequences for the whole world," Energoatom warns.

All Ukrainian NPPs on the government-controlled territory have dropped generation capacity due to the missile threat. As of 6.30 a.m., all power units were supplying 4,700 MW into the energy system.

Ukraine’s ability to ensure the security of the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been significantly limited by the intervention of Rosatom personnel in the work of the plant.

Quote"Right now, actions of the whole international community are urgently needed so that Russian terrorists’ groups are withdrawn from the territory of Zaporizhzhya NPP, the plant is transferred under the full control of the competent legitimate operator, i.e. Ukrainian Energoatom, and the conditions are re-established to preserve and secure nuclear, radiation and physical safety of the nuclear facility," Energoatom emphasized.
