Currently, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine does not have a clearly defined position on the administration of the third, the so-called booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The Head of the Ministry of Health Viktor Lyashko explained: both in the world and in our country, "the post-vaccination period has been extended from six months to a year."
Further, several options of the scenarios are possible:
- one of them is administering an additional dose of the vaccine;
- the second one is a repeated course of immunization (provides for repeated administration of two doses).
Lyashko stressed that the priority today is the vaccination of Ukrainians who have not yet received a single dose. He recalled that at the moment COVID-19 was a pandemic of the unvaccinated.
"80% of all deaths from covid are in the group of persons over 60. Of these, 98% are not vaccinated. Unfortunately, we have a fairly large group of elderly people who are not covered by vaccinations," the Minister added.
Context. Since the beginning of vaccination against coronavirus in Ukraine, 7,000,535 people have been vaccinated, of which 5,617,457 have received two doses of the vaccine.
The Chief Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin previously suggested that revaccination in Ukraine could start in a year.
36 billion UAH is provided for the fight against coronavirus in Ukraine in 2021. According to the Ministry of Finance, since the beginning of the year, more than 30 billion UAH have been spent from the total amount.
