Ukrainian diplomats are actively conducting negotiations at the level of Congress regarding the extension of assistance to Ukraine, in particular the extension of the Lend-Lease Act for another year. According to Interfax, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, said this on the air of the national telethon.
"This work does not stop, and it is very important for us to constantly keep Congress informed until the end of July," Markarova emphasized.
According to her, Ukrainian diplomats are working to ensure that Ukraine retains two channels of defense assistance.
"Our primary channel is still the USAI (Ukraine Security Promotion Initiative), which is one of the programs, and we also aim to extend the Lend-Lease Act for a year in this military budget. Thus, this opportunity, this tool would also be available if we ran out of existing grant programs," Markarova said.
According to the ambassador, work has already begun on the next additional budget to support Ukraine since Ukraine will need additional funds from the United States after October 1, 2023.
