Trial of first Russian invader from Kantemirovskaya tank division begins in Kyiv

A trial has been opened in Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv in the case of Russian military Vadim Shyshymarin on charges of murdering an unarmed 62-year-old resident in the village of Chupakhivka, Sumy region, who was riding a bicycle.

Earlier it was reported that the defendant is a 21-year-old commander of one of the units of the Kantemirovskaya tank division.

During today's court hearing, the Russian military said that he was registered in the city of Ust-Ilimsk, Irkutsk region. He is single, рфы no children. He served in military unit 32010 in the Moscow region.

The accused will be tried under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — "Violation of the laws and customs of war." He faces 10 to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

This is the first such criminal case initiated by the Ukrainian state since the beginning of the military invasion of the Russian Federation.

Recall that the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on enhanced investigation of "alleged" crimes of Russian troops in the previously occupied regions of Ukraine.
