The Ukrainian Navy will receive two Sandown minehunting ships from the UK Royal Navy to clear mines in the Black Sea. Britain will also team up with Norway to launch a Maritime Coalition to bolster security in the Black Sea. The UK Ministry of Defense announced this on the Internet.
"These minehunters will deliver vital capability to Ukraine, which will help save lives at sea and open up vital export routes, which have been severely limited since Putin launched his illegal full-scale invasion," says Defense Secretary Grant Shapps.
According to him, the new maritime coalition launched by the United Kingdom and Norway is focused on bolstering Ukraine’s security in the Black Sea. In particular, the coalition will help Ukraine transform its navy, making it more compatible with western allies and more interoperable with NATO.
"The UK and Royal Navy are particularly well-placed to support this endeavor, which will form part of a series of new coalitions formed between allies to ensure an enduring military commitment in support of Ukraine," says Grant Shapps.
