The government has received the preliminary results they hoped for by introducing a lockdown in Ukraine from January 8 to 24. According to the Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov, the coronavirus incidence in Ukraine has stabilized.
Moreover, the country is moving towards a decrease in the level of hospitalized people, he said on the air of the TV channel Ukraine.
At the same time, at a press briefing on January 22, Stepanov said that he would be able to assess the effect of strict quarantine restrictions after a while, namely until the end of the lockdown and after switching to a new strategy.
"The main effect of strict quarantine is that at the initial stages we managed to bring down the wave of the coronavirus spread that was potentially supposed to start after the New Year holidays. Of course, we are looking not only at the incidence, but also at the number of people who are hospitalized or who have a complex course of the disease. Currently, fewer than 19,000 patients are in hospitals, and at the beginning of December there were about 29 thousand. This is direct evidence that our strategy is affecting the situation and the situation is improving."
