Rolls-Royce and Energoatom to build a new power plant with an SMR: When it will happen

On August 15, Rolls-Royce and Energoatom signed a memorandum of understanding. According to the MoU, Rolls-Royce will help build a power plant with a small modular reactor in Ukraine.

The news was announced by the press service of Energoatom.

When will Rolls-Royce and Energoatom start building a new nuclear power plant?

The construction of the nuclear power plant will begin with the start of the country’s reconstruction. The nuclear power plant will be able to provide enough energy to power a million houses for over 60 years.

Rolls-Royce's Small Modular Reactor is a 470 MW plant based on a small pressurized water reactor. The use of this technology is equivalent to using more than 150 onshore wind turbines. In addition, Rolls-Royce's small modular reactor will occupy approximately one-tenth the area of a conventional nuclear power plant.

Earlier, it was reported that Energoatom was to buy two nuclear reactors in Bulgaria and install them at the sites of the third and fourth units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
