Energoatom starts building new power units worth $10 billion at the Khmelnytskyi NPP: the timing

Energoatom has prepared the bidding documents for building two new power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP. The new АР1000 reactors will be installed by the U.S.-based company Westinghouse.

The news was reported by the press service of the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company "Energoatom".

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to certify the technology in Ukraine and adopt the law necessary to implement the project. Each power unit is worth $5 billion, and both will be built at the same time. Funding will be provided from Energoatom’s budget as well as loan money secured by the American company.

The Ministry of Energy estimates that the construction will be finished in 2032.

АР1000 is a Generation III+ reactor with a capacity of 1.1 GW. It’s more compact and requires five times less concrete and rebar reinforcing compared to similar reactors.
