Ukrenergo National Power Company reached out to the Ukrainians and asked them to use electricity sparingly not only in the evening but also during the daytime. Due to a 6% increase in consumption this morning, the company had to establish emergency shutdown schedules in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as in the Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
"Please, dear Ukrainians, you all are somewhat power engineers these days. Help us. It's your job to voluntarily reduce your electricity consumption and be considerate about it. As this morning showed, reasonable electricity consumption should already apply not only to the evening hours but also to the morning hours," the message from the company reads.
Restrictions are being introduced so that Ukrenergo repair crews can restore the equipment that was damaged by Russian missiles during massive missile attacks. The company emphasizes that "the larger the consumption, the more restrictions there will be."
The Ukrainians were urged to minimize the use of electricity in the morning and evening, as well as not to turn on more than one high-power electrical appliance at a time during the day. Ukrenergo advises the population to use washing machines, electric heaters, water heaters, and other power-consuming appliances at night.
Context. According to Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko, during October 10–11, the Russian invaders damaged 30% of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. As a result, the load on the Ukrainian energy system increased significantly.
