Lockdown in Ukraine, origin of coronavirus, register of oligarchs, and end of war in Donbas—the main thing from Danilov's interview

NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov gave an interview to the outlet RBC-Ukraine and shared the details about the situation with coronavirus in the country and the likelihood of imposing a nationwide lockdown; his own view of the origins of COVID-19; the end of the war in Donbas, and Ukrainian groups that seek to lobby the Kremlin interests. ThePage publishes the highlights of the conversation.

Danilov on lockdown

According to the Head of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the authorities do not plan to impose a nationwide lockdown yet.

"We do not yet see any reason for the lockdown to be imposed. Territorially there will be certain restrictions."

Danilov also adds that it is too early to talk about revaccination and vaccination of children and adolescents.

Danilov on the "corona" origin

The Head of the NSDC notes that, unlike those people who are convinced that there is "a bat" behind the coronavirus, he personally is of the opinion that a person had a hand in this.

«This phenomenon has appeared on our planet. It is obvious that it has a biological nature. If not a single country in the world since December 2019—and it was then that we got the first information from the intelligence—until today has not given an answer to the question «what is this?«, then we are dealing with some extraordinary phenomenon. The fact is that biological weapons themselves are prohibited under many conventions, and their outing into open space... What happens after that gives me reason to believe that this may be a very complicated story. We have not got an answer—is it a natural or artificially created virus? Different thoughts are voiced from time to timet, but there is no final answer yet.»

Danilov on the end of the war in Donbas

The Head of the National Security Council is convinced that only the Russian side can end the war in eastern Ukraine.

«In fact, the key to all this lies in Moscow. And if (Russian President Vladimir—Ed. note) Putin does not decide that the war must be ended, then you can write and do whatever you like.»

He added that he sees no reason for the Russian leader to take this step. According to Danilov, the war in Ukraine is indeed part of a larger game of the Russian president—he is interested in Europe and "really does not like the way it is being waged."

Danilov on Putin's "lovers" in Ukraine

According to the Head of the NSDC, now there are three groups that seek to represent the interests of the Russian president in Ukraine, the fourth group— "Medvedchuk’s" one—has turned off so far. Danilov does not specify what groups and which persons he has in mind, but adds that "a showdown" is underway between them.

«In the Russian direction, there is now a colossal struggle for influence on Ukraine among those people who are on the territory of our country. There are clashes between these groups. Medvedchuk was one of these groups, he was, let's say, in favor, given the fact that he is Putin's compadre Putin is a godfather of Medvedchuk's daughter).»

Danilov on the register of Ukrainian oligarchs

The Head of the National Security Council notes that now there is a "clan-oligarchic economic order" in Ukraine and it is dangerous. He adds that while the corresponding bill No. 5599 on the fight against oligarchs has not been adopted, the filling of the list of these persons has not officially started yet. However, according to Danilov, technologically, the authorities already now have the opportunity to conduct "monitoring in the event of the adoption of a bill on all citizens who may fall into this coordinate system."
