The fate of thousands of Ukrainians forcibly deported to Russia is unknown — Denisova

Women and children are being forcibly taken en masse from the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions temporarily occupied by the enemy. This was stated by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova on her Facebook page.

She explained that in the cities occupied by the Russian troops, the so-called "humanitarian corridors" are organized for people to deport them to the aggressor country. They search women, children, and the elderly, confiscate Ukrainian documents and telephones and sent people to the border regions of the Russian Federation. There they are placed in concentration camps with further relocation to depressed regions of Russia for settlement.

People are left without means of communication with relatives, often they do not have food and basic necessities.

So far, there is no information on the number of deported persons. Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has launched a pre-trial investigation into the fact of illegal deportation to the Russian Federation of 2,389 children from the occupied territories of Donbas. However, the Russian-fascist press, which is inclined to distort reality to exaggerating the invaders' achievements, reports about 206,000 migrants from Donbas.

Denisova assumes that there are thousands of forcibly deported Donetsk and Luhansk residents from the occupied territories.

Attempts of the Russian-fascists to create similar "humanitarian corridors" heading towards the occupying country were recorded in Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy. and Kyiv regions.

"Such actions of the aggressor state are qualified as kidnapping, which is a war crime and a direct violation of Articles 3 and 34 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights. I appeal to the international community to take into account the terrorist activities of the aggressor state troops when determining the limits of sanctions pressure on Russia," Denisova stated.

She called on the citizens of Ukraine not to trust the invaders and to use only officially agreed humanitarian corridors, announced on the pages of the Ukrainian authorities, for evacuation.
