Russian enterprises owned by the Corporation Uralzavod as well as the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant suspended the production of armoured vehicles over the lack of foreign-made parts supplies.
"According to the available information, over the lack of receipts of foreign-made components, the work of the enterprises of the Uralzavod Corporation and the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant has been suspended. These companies specialize in the manufacture and repair of tanks and other armored vehicles for the armed forces of the Russian Federation," the statement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces reads.
Troubles with the parts have disrupted the ongoing repairs of the invading army’s armored vehicles. These companies carry out serial assembly of tanks for both Russian troops and export.
Despite the dashing reports on import substitution, Russia's military-industrial complex is in fact dependent on imports.
The fire-control system of modernized Russian tanks, inter alia, is based on French thermal imagers supplied through Belarus bypassing sanctions since 2014.
The sanctions will have a cascading effect on the entire military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation. This refers to the inability to produce new equipment and weapons as well as to repair the previously manufactured ones.
