Biden signs bill on allocating $40 billion in aid to Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bill on allocating $40 billion in aid to Ukraine. This is reported by the White House. This is the largest aid package to another country that Congress has passed in the past two decades.

What will the U.S. financial aid be used for?

  • $19.7 billion — will be send to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine;
  • $6 billion — will go to direct aid to Kyiv;
  • $4 billion — will be used to purchase weapons;
  • $8.8 billion — economic aid to Ukraine;
  • $4.35 billion — will go to overcome the global food crisis and humanitarian aid (administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development);
  • $700 million — will also be given to the U.S. Department of State to overcome the global food crisis.

Context. In April 2022, the U.S. Congress passed the Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine. Biden signed the law on May 9.
