EBA slams idea to liquidate Ukraine's Agrarian Ministry

Ukraine 's European Business Association (EBA) has said on its website that it considers the possible liquidation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and its absorption into other ministries a bad idea.

EBA calls the agricultural sector a guarantor of the country 's food security. The business community emphasizes that Ukraine is today one of the largest exporters of agricultural products in the world, occupying a leading position in grain crops, oil, oilseeds and honey exports.

In addition, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the agricultural sector forms 18% of Ukraine ’s GDP, and the export of agricultural products in 2018 amounted to $18.6 billion.

The association says EU countries, the USA, China and Canada also have specialized agrarian ministries, and there is a separate organization at the United Nations level (FAO).

Quote" All these structures play an important role in shaping agricultural policy, ensuring food security, stimulating development, developing sound regulations, including for the effective operation of business," the EBA said.

The idea of possibly liquidating of a number of ministries, including the Agrarian Ministry, was floated a week ago by the representative of the team of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Oleksandr Tkachenko, General Director of the 1+1 Media Group owned by Ukrainian businessman Ihor Kolomoisky.
