The city looked like a chamber of terror: Azov fighters described how the Russians destroyed Mariupol

The Azov regiment fighters released from captivity said that they have witnessed the terror against civilian residents of Mariupol and can testify in the Hague International Court of Justice.

In particular, Vladyslav Zhaivoronok, nom de guerre Wikipedia, says that the Russians didn’t just kill people, but burned whole neighborhoods with their residents.

Quote"I have a photo I’ve taken from above. It shows burnt houses with civilians. They [Russians] also expose these facts when they take pictures of themselves in Ukrainians’ apartments," he said.

Every single death is a tragedy, Wikipedia says, but in Mariupol, whole families died at once and their bodies were burnt in mobile crematoria. That’s why he thinks that all the locals who are now considered missing have in fact died.

Denys Chepurko, nom de guerre Mango, also says that in Mariupol, he witnessed Russian tanks shoot at houses where no military had been at that moment:

Quote"I witnessed a family run across the road when the Russian military shot the child’s leg with machine gun fire. We tried to give them first aid to save at least the child."

Another Azov fighter, Dmytro Usichenko, nom de guerre Vyshnia (Cherry), says that hundreds and thousands of people lay dead in Mariupol:

Quote"Mariupol was a city that didn’t look like a city. It was rather a chamber of horrors, with dead people or shell-shocked children everywhere and everything around mutilated. And as for children, it’s all very wrong…"

Zhaivoronok echoes Usichenko, saying that the city didn’t look like a city, which is hard to fathom from pictures alone:

Quote"Imagine it all happened in your city. All the windows are broken, with shards of glass literally everywhere. All the cables, wires, they all lie on the road, utility poles toppled. Parts of buildings torn off. Many buildings have been collapsed by aerial bombs, and there, in the cellars, their residents have been buried alive. The enemy shot civilians who tried to escape toward Zaporizhzhia, to the government-controlled part of Ukraine."

He said he couldn’t blame those who eventually escaped to Rostov-on-Don, because those people only wanted to survive:

Quote"Maybe they are now giving false testimonies to survive."
