Ukraine has shown what it is capable of and how much it can give to common security in Europe and the world. But NATO has yet to show what the Alliance can do to maintain security as the world's largest defense alliance.
"The only thing I require you to do after such a month of war. This is a request for the sake of our military. Please, never, never again tell us that our army does not meet NATO standards," President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Actually, our President only said what everyone has been talking about in Ukraine and many NATO countries for at least two weeks now. And the world is waiting, and Ukraine is looking forward to real action and security guarantees.
"We have shown what our standards are capable of. And how much we can give to global security in Europe and the world. How much we can do to defend from aggression against everything that we value. That you value," Zelenskyy stressed.
"Do you have confidence that Article 5 will work if Budapest (the Budapest Memorandum) hasn't worked for us already?" the President noted.
"NATO has yet to show what the Alliance can do. To save people. To show that this is a truly powerful defense alliance in the world. The world is waiting. Ukraine is waiting. Waiting for real action. Real security guarantees. From those whose word is worth trusting and whose deeds can keep the peace. For real. Proposals are on the table. Our needs are on the table. We need peace immediately. The answers are only yours," the head of state said.
According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, at this stage, Ukraine is negotiating with the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Turkey regarding guarantees of its security.
In France today, two of four French Triomphant-class ballistic missile submarines left their base at Ile Longues, south of Brest. This is additional support for the only submarine that is usually on constant patrol in the waters of the Atlantic.
The last time the deployment of three submarines at once occurred was ten years before the end of the Cold War during the US-Soviet standoff over medium-range missiles in Europe.
