Not weeping, but winning: Zelenskyy on sanctions, mobilization, and economic patriotism

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recorded a new video address to the Ukrainians where he spoke about the security situation around Ukraine and further steps amid a possible escalation.

Zelenskyy on mobilization

The head of state announced the signing of an order on calling-out of reserves during a special period.

"I stress: this refers exclusively to citizens assigned to the operational reserve. We must enhance the preparedness of the Ukrainian army for all possible changes in the operational environment."

He stressed that at present there is no need for general mobilization in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy on sanctions against Russia

The head of state recalled Russia's recognition of the independence of the so-called DPR and LPR and permission to deploy Russian troops to these territories.

«The "we are not there" was replaced by the official "we are here after all." This was adopted at the highest political level unanimously. And it gives a clear answer who really wants peace on earth, and who wants reallotment of land.»

The President also stressed that the United States, Britain, and Germany had already responded with sanctions to these actions of the Kremlin.

Zelenskyy on economic patriotism program

"These are additional incentives to localize our production. Targeted programs to support certain industries. Reducing the tax burden on business and limiting inspections. These are incentives to attract funds of the population to businesses and the banking system. The Head of State announced this in an address to citizens. Reduction of VAT on gasoline and diesel fuel. This will bring down gas prices. Our goal is to gain economic independence. Especially in the energy sector."

The head of state noted that he had planned a meeting with major Ukrainian businesses. According to him, they must protect the economy and finances of our country, create jobs and strengthen Ukraine.

"Ukrainians are a peaceful nation. We want silence. But if we remain silent today, tomorrow we will disappear. Daily hard work is ahead for all of us. And we are ready for it. Self-confidence. Confidence in the country. Confidence in victory."

Context. Recall: on February 22, Russia recognized the DPR and LPR within the administrative boundaries of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions (in the boundaries they were part of Ukraine).
