The European Union will impose COVID certificates—EU Digital COVID Certificate by the end of June 2021. This was reported by the press service of the European Commission.
The European Parliament and the EU Council have already preliminary agreed on imposing a special vaccination certificate for residents of the European Union. This was announced by EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders on his Twitter page.
On May 26, the Committee on Civil Liberties will vote on the text of the agreement, and if it approves it, the text will be presented at the plenary session of the European Parliament on June 7-10.
With what vaccines it will be allowed to enter Europe
The European Commission reported that not only those vaccines approved by EU will be reflected in the certificate, but also those that are on the list of the World Health Organization:
- BioNTech/Pfizer (Comirnaty);
- Moderna;
- Oxford-AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria);
- Johnson & Johnson (Janssen);
- Covishield;
- Sinopharm/BIBP;
- within a month, WHO will make a decision on the CoronaVac vaccine of the Chinese company Sinovac.
The European Parliament stressed that the certificate will be in two formats—digital and paper, will contain a QR code with a digital signature and indicate that a person was vaccinated against coronavirus, recently received a negative test result or recovered from an infection. In practice, these will be three different certifications.
COVID certificates in Ukraine
According to Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Ukraine plans to issue vaccination certificates from the end of June, Radio Svoboda reports.
According to her, these passports will comply with EU standards and will allow Ukrainians to travel to the EU countries.
"The whole process of developing these passports was carried out from the beginning together with the team of the European Commission that is developing the format of the European digital passport. That is, compatibility was the basis that was assumed in our work. From the first day it was a common process," she said.
According to Deputy Minister of Health Yaroslav Kucher, imposing such certificates is also necessary in order to ease quarantine in Ukraine. He said this in the program "Official Conversation" on the air of the TV channel Dom. According to him, after the majority of Ukrainians have a digital document on vaccination, quarantine restrictions can be lifted in the country.
Context. Earlier it was reported that the US has not yet decided whether to impose vaccination passports, as they could exacerbate inequality.
