US First Lady Jill Biden will travel from Washington to Eastern Europe on Thursday, May 5, The New York Times reports.
She plans to visit Romania and Slovakia, two NATO members that border Ukraine. About a million Ukrainians have now fled to these two countries.
The First Lady will stop at Mihail Kogalniceau Airbase in Romania, where U.S. military service members are stationed. In the capital of Bucharest she will meet with Romanian leaders. She will spend Mother’s Day (celebrated on May 8 this year) in Kosice and Vysne Nemecke, Slovakia, with Ukrainian mothers and children before heading to Bratislava to meet with government officials.
Recall: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi on May 1 in Kyiv. For safety reasons, this visit was not announced in advance.
On April 30, Hollywood celebrity and UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie visited Lviv. The visit was a surprise for the people of Lviv and guests of the city.
