Ukrainian auto market: record December

The last month of the year impressed not only with the traditional surge in sales but with record figures over the past 6 years.

During Christmas holidays everyone strives to please themselves and their loved ones with new cars. Some make themselves a gift for 12 months of hard work, others have been paid a generous 13th salary and annual bonuses, and still others could not resist the December sales and new loan offers. As a result, within a month Ukrainian importers and dealers managed to sell 9,548 new cars. The last time similar figures were observed before the war—in February 2014.

In total, during a viral year, Ukrainians bought 86,000 cars against 89,000 in 2019. Let’s agree, the difference of 3.3% is very little, given the lockdowns, plant shutdowns, rescheduling of presentations, the closure of car dealerships, showrooms, and service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The rating was headed by Toyota that managed to snatch the first position from Renault. The latter was leading for most of the year. First of all, due to the victory in the battle of Toyota RAV4 vs Renault Duster SUVs. The third place in popularity is occupied by last year's leader Kia Sportage. From the "non-SUV world", the French low-cost B-class sedans Renault Logan and Peugeot 301, originally developed for third world countries, were in the greatest demand among domestic motorists.
