Germany plans to supply Ukraine with modern air defense systems — IRIS-T air-to-air missiles, DW reports.
Defense Express notes that IRIS-T can hit targets at a distance of up to 40 km and at an altitude of up to 20 km. During his speech in the Bundestag, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that modern air defense systems would help Ukraine "protect large cities from Russian air raids."
He also said that Germany had promised to supply Ukraine with modern self-propelled howitzers and tracking radars capable of detecting enemy howitzers, mortars, and rocket artillery. In addition, Berlin will send multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine in close coordination with the United States.
Context. The German government has already sent 15 tons of ammunition, 100,000 hand grenades, and about 5,000 anti-tank mines to Ukraine.
