Ukraine has severed diplomatic relations with Russia. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this at a press conference.
"Ukraine is defending itself and will not give up its freedom no matter what Moscow thinks. For Ukrainians, independence and the right to live on their own land according to their will is the highest value. Russia meanly, suicidally attacked our state early in the morning. Just like Nazi Germany did during World War Two. From today, our states are on different sides of world history. The Russian state is on the path of evil," the President said.
He also stated that a lot depends on the Russian people: "Today the Russians themselves will choose what path each of them personally takes."
He also called on everyone who has combat experience to take up arms and defend Ukraine, and Ukrainians—to become blood donors.
Context. Today, on February 24 at 4 am, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation against Ukraine. The reason was the appeal of the leaders of the so-called LDPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, in which they requested him to protect them from "military aggression" from the Ukrainian state.
After Putin officially declared war on Ukraine, the Russian army began shelling Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, Mariupol, Dnipro and others.
