The energy system of Ukraine today was merged with the energy system of continental Europe ENTSO-E.
"Today, Ukraine has become part of the EU on the energy map. Our energy system is now part of the unified energy system of Europe. Today we have joined ENTSO-E, a year ahead of schedule. Ukraine and Europe now form a single energy space. A unified energy "front" where we strengthen each other," Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said.
Before this significant moment, the energy system of Ukraine worked in isolated mode for 21 days instead of the planned three ones.
"We separated from Russia and Belarus on the morning of February 24, a few hours before the war. Coincidentally, but behind this coincidence was Russia's desire to prevent Ukraine's European integration, to ban us from moving into the EU. The desire to forbid us to be free and independently choose our future and our alliances," Halushchenko writes.
The enemy was counting on the collapse of the Ukrainian energy system, the lack of capacity to meet the needs of Ukraine in wartime. Ukrainian power plants, including nuclear ones, were also attacked.
But the Ukrainian energy system stood firm. Wherever possible, our power engineers supplied people with electricity: both military and civilians, households and enterprises.
"And I am deeply grateful to our European partners who did everything possible to ensure that the unification of the Ukrainian energy system with the European one took place as quickly as possible, as well as to all the power engineers of Ukraine for the years of hard work and days of solidity that brought the reliability of our energy system and our will to results," said Halushchenko.
The 21-day isolated mode proved the solidity and reliability of the Ukrainian energy system, just as 21 days of the war proved the solidity and reliability of Ukraine itself.
