Electric aircraft, operation during pandemic, and innovations: the top 20 best airlines in the world in 2021

The Australian aviation safety and product quality agency AirlineRatings has announced the top 20 airlines for 2021, according to its report.

Top 20 airlines in 2021:

  • The first place was taken by the national airline of Qatar—Qatar Airway. This is due to innovation, high quality of service, and also due to the fact that it continued to operate during the COVID pandemic and got many new products in the industry over the past year.
  • New Zealand's largest airline, Air New Zealand, was ranked second for its continued industry leadership and innovations.
  • Singapore Airlines ranked third for its excellence in technological innovation and in-flight products. It was also ranked first in the Best First Class category.
  • Australia's Qantas was ranked fourth due to high safety and financial performance during the COVID pandemic. The company won the Best Domestic Service and Best Lounge nominations.
  • Dubai-based Emirates was ranked fifth, at the same time being the best in the Economy Class category.
  • Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific Airways ranked sixth. It won the Best Business Class award in 2013 and 2015 and became the Best Asia-Pacific Airline in 2016.
  • British airline Virgin Atlantic ranked seventh with excellent cabin innovation.
  • American airline United Airlines is in eighth spot. It upgraded its fleet with supersonic, subsonic, and electric aircraft.

AirlineRatings analyzes airlines based on dozens of criteria, including innovation, safety, comfort, and more. To get into the rating, carriers must have a minimum of seven stars in the first category and so on.
