Tokyo Olympics: Ukraine ranked 16th by the number of medals

Games of the XXXII Olympiad came to an end in Tokyo. The Ukrainian athletes have 19 medals to their names: one gold, 6 silver, and 12 bronze, the National Olympic Committee reported.

When ranking teams in the unofficial medal standings, the number of "gold" is taken into account first. In this case, Ukraine ranked 44th.

The medal standings were won by the US team that for a long time lagged behind the leading China. The Americans have 39 gold, 40 silver, and 33 bronze medals to their names. China ranked second (38-32-18). The hosts of the Olympics, the Japanese, ranked third (27-14-17).

In terms of the total number of medals won, Ukraine ranks 16th. Medals were won by representatives of 86 countries and 203 countries that took part in the Games.

Ukrainian Olympians received awards in Greco-Roman wrestling, synchronized swimming, rowing, boxing, high jump, karate, cycle track, freestyle wrestling, and swimming.

153 Ukrainian athletes took part in the Olympics.

In Tokyo, the Ukrainians significantly surpassed the result of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro when they had won 11 medals (2 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze), despite the fact that at that time there had been 206 athletes in the team.

Additionally. Computer sports, or e-sports, obtained official status. Thus, Ukraine has joined more than 25 countries in the world where esports is recognized as an official sport.
