Time magazine readers have chosen Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the most influential person in 2022. He overtook Tesla CEO Elon Musk and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In total, more than 3.3 million people voted for him (5% of the total).
"When Russian forces began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February, Zelenskyy, a comedian with no political experience before he was elected Ukraine’s President in 2019, was thrust onto the world stage and rallied leaders to support Ukraine," the magazine’s article reads.
With a gap of 1.5%, Musk ranks second. Last December, he was named Time magazine's Person of the Year 2021 for his influence "on life on Earth and probably life beyond Earth." With a figure of 3.4% less, the Prime Minister of Great Britain took the honorable third place in the rating.
The final list of TIME100 in 2022 will be published on May 23rd.
