At its first meeting, the Ukraine-NATO council approved the program for the next year to prepare Ukraine for NATO accession. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this at a press conference in Brussels on November 29, according to Ukrinform.
"We discussed Ukraine’s path to NATO membership. Allies agree that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. We have now provided recommendations on Ukraine’s priority reforms, including the fight against corruption, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting human rights and minority rights. Ukraine is closer to NATO than ever before," said the Secretary General.
According to Stoltenberg, NATO is transforming its comprehensive assistance package to help Ukraine transition from the Soviet era to NATO equipment and standards. He has underscored that NATO supports Ukraine on its path to membership in the alliance.
The meeting of the Ukraine-NATO council was held on November 29, 2023, and became the first one in history.
