The sea surface drones that successfully attacked the Kerch Bridge as well as the Russian assault ship Olengorskiy Gornyak and the SIG tanker are the own technological developments of the Security Service of Ukraine. This was revealed by Vasyl Maliuk, head of the SSU, in his exclusive commentary for CNN.

Quote"Sea surface drones are a unique invention of the Security Service of Ukraine. None of the private companies are involved. Using these drones, we have recently conducted a successful hit of the Crimean bridge, the big assault ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak, and the SIG tanker," said Vasyl Maliuk, head of the Security Service of Ukraine.

He added that the development and production of these drones were the result of a joint effort by the SSU team, assisted by civilian engineers and IT specialists. The drones are manufactured at an underground facility in Ukraine.

Quote"We are working on a number of new interesting operations, including in the Black Sea waters. I promise you, it’ll be exciting, especially for our enemies," Maliuk underscored.

The SSU head added that the sea drones that hit the Kerch bridge in July 2023 had been dubbed SeaBaby by the personnel, which is a reference to the name "Maliuk" (Ukrainian for "baby"). They bear a warhead of 850 kg.

Two separate surface drones, each bearing 450 kg of explosives, were used to hit the assault ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak and the SIG tanker.

Vasyl Maliuk underscored that all the targets hit by the security service are legitimate according to Ukrainian and international law.

He also noted that Western partners aren’t involved in these special operations but extensively learn from the SSU’s unique experience.
