Does Russia amass missiles for the winter? An answer from a military expert

Author

The Russian army doesn’t amass missiles for the winter. Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military and political observer and coordinator of the Information Resistance project, reached this conclusion.

He argues that the frequency of missile strikes can indicate whether the invaders are preparing massive missile terror for the winter ahead.

Quote"To that end, I cited the example of the production and stockpiling of Kh-101/555 missiles. The invaders are able to produce an average of 2 Kh-101/555 missiles per day. Taking into account their attacks in August, they are now using limited ammunition for this purpose, which is equivalent to production in the intervals between the attacks," says Kovalenko.

The frequency of attacks against Ukraine using Kh-101/555 missiles

The expert analyzed the launches of Kh-101/555 missiles between July 26 and August 30, 2023, and produced the following statistics:

  • July 26: 36 launched/33 intercepted — Kh-101/555;
  • August 6: 20/13 Kh-101/555;
  • August 15: 20/16 — Kh-101/555;
  • August 27: 4/4 — Kh-101/555;
  • August 30: 28/28 — Kh-101/555.

Between July 27 and August 30, Russia could produce a maximum of 68 Kh-101/555 missiles. In the same period, it used 72 missiles (the July 26 attack was not taken into account) to attack Ukraine. Therefore, the expert concludes that the number of missile launches during this period is equivalent to the amount produced.

So, the analyst believes that Russia doesn’t amass missiles, at least as of August 30. At the same time, he noted that the invaders could be said to be amassing missiles if not for the August 30 attack.
