The Japanese government will provide Ukraine with seven high-voltage autotransformers and five gas turbines, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.
"In particular, the autotransformers were purchased with EBRD funds, and thanks to the efforts of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this large-sized energy equipment will be delivered to Ukraine. The gas turbines purchased by Japan will be delivered to Ukraine with significant support from UNDP and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)," the message says.
The ministry reported that the purchase and transfer of the equipment had been announced by Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Yōko Kamikawa during her meeting with Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
The Minister of Energy thanked the Japanese side for its support and readiness to continue to help Ukraine.
The Japanese minister expressed her admiration for the strength of the Ukrainian people and announced her country’s further plans for the provision of energy equipment.
The Ministry of Energy notes that the equipment provided by Japan will help ensure uninterrupted power supply to more than six million Ukrainians, including in areas affected by targeted Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. This equipment is in line with Ukraine’s priorities in decentralization and the green transition of the energy sector. In addition, the installation of autotransformers, the equipment most often destroyed by the enemy, strengthens the resilience of the power system.
In addition to the gas turbines and autotransformers, the Government of Japan and UNDP have already provided 1,200 generators and 1,000 power units to government agencies and emergency services in Ukraine, as well as 500 power generators and six mobile power supply units through JICA.
