On the morning of January 18, a helicopter crashed in Brovary, Kyiv region. As a result of the disaster, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs died, and a fire broke out in a kindergarten, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko and Head of the National Police Ihor Klymenko reported.

"An aircraft has just crashed into a social infrastructure object. We are investigating information about the casualties and the circumstances. The State Emergency Service and all services are already working on site," Tymoshenko wrote.

In turn, the spokeswoman for the Kyiv region police said that the aircraft fell on a kindergarten. It was a helicopter. As a result of the crash, a fire started on the spot. People were evacuated.

Oleksii Kuleba, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, also commented on the accident. According to him, the helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and a residential house.

"In the city of Brovary, a helicopter fell near a kindergarten and a residential house. At the time of the tragedy, children and employees of the institution were in the kindergarten. Now everyone has been evacuated," he emphasized.

According to Yurii Ihnat, speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the helicopter was on a mission from the State Emergency Service.

The head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, also commented on the situation.

"As a result of the crash, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs died: Minister Denys Monastyrskyi, First Deputy Minister Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary Yurii Lubkovich. In total, 16 victims are currently known, including two children. Of them, nine were on board the helicopter. 22 victims are in hospital, 10 of them are children. All specialized services are working on site. The inspection of the scene is ongoing", he said.

As of 12:00 a.m., it was known that there were nine people on board: six members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs task force, including the ministry’s leadership, as well as three members of the crew of the State Emergency Service.

A total of 25 people were injured (including 15 adults and 10 children), who were hospitalized (information to be clarified). 127 officers of the State Emergency Service and 30 pieces of equipment were involved in the liquidation of the consequences of the emergency situation. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service are working at the scene.
