On Wednesday, September 14, five vessels with 153,000 tons of food products on board departed from the Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdennyi ports. They are headed to countries in Asia and Europe.

Context. The grain initiative, concluded in Istanbul on July 22, consists of two agreements. The first one is the Initiative on the Safe Transportation of Grain and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian Ports. In addition to the UN and Turkey, the documents were separately signed by Ukraine and Russia. The second agreement is the Memorandum of Understanding on Russian Exports of Agricultural Products. The Initiative was intended to last for 120 days with an option of extension for the same period. The Memorandum is to be valid for three years.

On September 7, Russian dictator Putin said that Moscow was discontent with the implementation of the agreement that was meant to save the world’s poorest countries from hunger. He asserted that Europe was by far the main beneficiary of the agreement.

The Page has explained here why Putin’s statements about grain supplies from Ukraine were a lie.
