Splitting up Ukrzaliznytsia: the Cabinet of Ministers will dismiss the Head of the company Volodymyr Zhmak—The Page’s sources

The Cabinet plans to dismiss the Head of Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) Volodymyr Zhmak shortly. The reason for the likely dismissal may be the signing of contracts that lobby for the interests of the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov. This was told to The Page by the government source.

At the same time, the Supervisory Board of Ukrzaliznytsia unanimously supported Zhmak's resignation, the former Business Development Director at UZ Andrey Ryazantsev wrote on Facebook.

The decision to dismiss the Head of the UZ was made by President Volodymyr Zelensky because of the compromising evidence about corruption that the former Head of UZ Yevhen Kravtsov allegedly gave him. Probably after Zhmak, Ivan Yurik, who is close to Kravtsov, will perform the duties of the Head of the company.

Ukrzaliznytsia signed contracts with Rinat Akhmetov's company Metinvest. These contracts insure the latter against an increase in tariffs for steel transportation. In fact, UZ has reserved half of its gondola car fleet until 2025.

Moreover, with the starting auction price of 800 UAH per day, Metinvest became the only auction winner with a minimum price of 480 UAH. The savings for the company will amount to 14.3%, because UZ agreed on a minimum price for it. This price was calculated in accordance with the "old" coefficient for calculating the empty run.

The approximate amount that Akhmetov's company can save, taking into account the payment for the use of the cars that will be approximately 612 UAH, reaches 770 million UAH.

For the same reasons, the Commercial Director of Ukrzaliznytsia, Irakli Ezgubay, was probably fired.
