STABNET mobile stabilization containers to be deployed on the frontlines

STABNET, a mobile container-based military stabilization point for saving wounded soldiers on the battlefield, was presented in Kyiv.

Medical teams estimate that 50% of critically wounded casualties do not survive evacuation from the battlefield because of the prolonged evacuation time and lack of stationary stabilization points. The purpose of the mobile stabilization containers is to ensure prompt primary medical care on the frontlines.

Quote"The idea of creating a compact autonomous complex was conceived during our volunteer trips to the frontlines, when we delivered ambulances and medical equipment. The design was borrowed from mobile bath and laundry complexes, as well as modules of field hospitals, which were donated to Ukraine by Western partners. This container can be quickly delivered to the necessary location with an ordinary pick-up truck because time is crucial in the fight for the lives of the wounded," said the concept author and head of the project, French volunteer Damien Harry-Marin.

Colonel Oleksandr Tomak, head of the medical service of the Territorial Defense Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, added that wounded soldiers often get to receive medical stabilization in totally unsuitable conditions, sometimes literally on the ground. Therefore, a network of such medical containers along the frontlines would help reduce the death rate of defenders.

Quote"The distance between the battlefield and a brigade stabilization point is often quite large, and the evacuation lasts longer than we would like. Unfortunately, we are losing fighters at this stage due to serious injuries. In addition, prompt first aid in appropriate conditions will help reduce the number of cases of bacterial infection, which leads to amputations," said Tomak.

The first pilot container was made with support from the Razom for Ukraine foundation. In the process of development, the design team was consulted by ten medical teams working in stationary stabilization points.

A water tank and two power generators ensure the autonomous work of the container, which has all the necessary equipment to provide emergency medical aid.

Quote"We have two racks with equipment, which includes an oxygen concentrator, an intubation kit, a ventilator, a defibrillator, a monitor of all vital functions, an ultrasound machine, and an electrocautery device to stop bleeding. There is also a sterilizer for processing instruments, a sink, and a refrigerator for medicines and blood products," says Liudmyla Sakaly, coordinator of STABNET deployment on the frontlines, surgeon, and captain of the medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

After the presentation, the mobile stabilization container will go to the frontline, where it will be tested in real combat conditions, and if necessary, adjustments will be made to the project.

Developers and volunteers plan to create a network of 100 mobile stabilization containers along the entire frontline and thereby solve the problem of losing wounded soldiers on the evacuation route.
