First Deputy Governor of the National Bank Kateryna Rozhkova and some other employees of the regulator are suspected of high treason and a corresponding investigation is being conducted. But they have not been officially charged.

As the Kyiv Post writes with reference to the corresponding document of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the case relates to Privatbank. The charges are based on the fact that Rozhkova allegedly hired the foreign detective agency Kroll that was investigating the withdrawal of more than $5.5 billion from Privatbank by its former owners.

Moreover, she and other NBU employees are also suspected of squandering public funds to hire this agency, as well as the consulting firm AlixPartners and the law firm Hogan Lovells and Asters.

Rozhkova herself, when asked by the publication to comment on this information, wrote that she did not know anything about this, but there was nothing new in attacks on the NBU's cooperation with foreign companies. "This is just surreal," she wrote.

Context. In October 2020, the Council of the National Bank reprimanded Rozhkova and Deputy Governor of the NBU Dmytro Solohub for violating the executive directives of the National Bank, the NBU Employee Ethics Code, internal regulations for employees and violations of the Labor Code of Ukraine requirements. They, in turn, accused the NBU Council of censorship.

Last week it became known that the Communications Department of the NBU banned the publication of Rozhkova's interview with the publication NV in its original form, and the Governor of the National Bank, Kyrylo Shevchenko, issued a decree forbidding her to comment on certain topics.
