Post-truth vs. post-truth: Censoring Putin's lies

Author

The bestselling Israeli author of "Sapiens" and "Homo Deus" has approved changes in the Russian translation of his latest book, "21 Lessons for the 21st Century," to omit examples of lies told by Russian President Vladimir Putin about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2014.

Yuval Noah Harari admitted to Israeli media that he approved the changes to avoid "deterring certain audiences" and to avoid local authorities censoring the book.

The the Hebrew and English editions of the book, a chapter called "Post-truth: Some fake news lasts for ever" gives examples of Putin’s lies about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the Russian edition of the book, however, all that is gone, replaced with "post-truth" deals with Trump.

Harari admitted he approved the changes, which have been criticized harshly by the Ukrainian Book Institute.
