Oscars were awarded for the 94th time: List of winners and minute of silence for Ukraine

The annual Academy Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles. After the announcement of Amy Schumer, the host of the award ceremony,, about the possibility of a live address by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, many expected to see him on the screen during the ceremony. However, the show producers limited themselves to a moment of silence, calling the war in Ukraine a "conflict" and keeping silent about Russia's aggression.

A minute of silence was announced in the middle of the ceremony. During it, a text was shown on behalf of the American Film Academy.

"We'd like to have a moment of silence to show our support for the people of Ukraine. While film is an important avenue for us to express our humanity in times of conflict, the reality is millions of families in Ukraine need food, medical care, clean water and emergency services. Resources are scarce and we — collectively as a global community — can do more.We ask you to support Ukraine in any way you are able. #StandWithUkraine."

Some celebrities also symbolically expressed their support for Ukraine on the red carpet and during the award ceremony.

Earlier, actor and director Sean Penn, who made a documentary in Ukraine about the war against the Russian invaders, called for a boycott of the ceremony if there was no video address by President Zelenskyy. He also promised to throw away his Oscar statuette if the Academy did not support Ukraine properly.
