The faction of the pro-Russian political party Opposition Platform — For Life officially ceased to exist in the Verkhovna Rada. MP Oleksiy Honcharenko (European Solidarity faction) announced this on his Telegram channel.
"The Opposition Platform For Life faction in the Verkhovna Rada has been officially liquidated," Honcharenko wrote.
Context. At the end of March, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine suspended the activities of the Opposition Platform — For Life and ten other political parties associated with Russia.
At that time, in addition to the Opposition Platform — For Life, the NSDC blacklist included the Party of Shariy, Nashi, the Opposition Bloc, the Left Opposition, the Union of Leftists, Derzhava, the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, the Socialist Party of Ukraine, the Socialist Party, and the Volodymyr Saldo Bloc.
In April, the Opposition Platform — For Life suspended its activities in the Verkhovna Rada, and its deputies created a new parliamentary group, Platform For Life and Peace. The group was led by pro-Russian politician Yuriy Boyko.
On May 3, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill banning the activities of pro-Russian parties in Ukraine. In particular, this applies to political forces that justify Russian aggression.
