On Monday, October 17, Russian invaders attacked Kyiv and the Kyiv Region with Iranian-made kamikaze drones. The mayor of the capital, Vitalii Klychko, reported explosions in the central part of the city, namely the Shevchenkivskyi district.
"In the morning, 28 drones flew toward Kyiv. Thanks to the air defense of our Armed Forces, most of the flying terrorists were downed. A total of five explosions were heard in Kyiv," he noted.
Damage to a residential house in the Shevchenkivskyi district was confirmed resulting from an explosion. Damage to energy facilities was also reported.

Eighteen residents of the building were rescued at the site, with two of them retrieved from under the rubble. At 11:32 AM, Klychko reported that a body of a killed woman was retrieved from the rubble of the house in the Shevchenkivskyi district, which had been damaged by an explosion caused by the drone attack.
At 12:50 AM, 19 residents were known to have been rescued, 4 injured, and 3 killed.
The Kyiv mayor reported that a couple was killed by the October 17 drone attack.
"A young couple, husband and wife, who were expecting a baby. The woman was in the sixth month of pregnancy. Russia is a terrorist state!" he wrote.
The adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Anton Herashchenko, told the Kyiv TV channel that enemy drones attacked an infrastructure object near the railway station in Kyiv.
"The Russians launched drones aimed at infrastructure facilities. They attacked objects near the railway station. Nobody was injured or killed. The building was damaged, but it continues to function. Air defense is working, and they will look for better ways to shoot down these drones," he said.
Klychko announced that parts of several streets in the center of Kyiv would be blocked. He called on the citizens not to go to the city center unless there was an urgent need.

Ukrzaliznytsia announced that despite the drone attack, all trains would depart from Kyiv and arrive in the capital on schedule.
"The main station of the city is open for passengers with tickets, underground shelters are working, waiting for trains is possible in shelters. Boarding and disembarking of passengers at Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi and Darnytsia stations is carried out through underground passages," the announcement reads.
The Kyiv City Express continues to move around the capital strictly according to the schedule.
"Attention passengers: those who are waiting for the end of the air alert in the shelters and will not be able to board their train in time: your ticket will be valid for travel on the NEXT train in the same direction," the company announced.
