On December 19, 2022, on St. Nicholas Day, lights were lit on the country's main Christmas tree on Kyiv’s Sofia Square. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko posted about this.
"This year, there have been many discussions about whether to have a Christmas tree, given the fact that we are living in conditions of martial law, shelling, and power outages. But I think we’ve made the right decision. There must be a Christmas tree! Our children should have a holiday! Despite all the efforts of Russian barbarians to deprive Ukrainians of the joy of Christmas and the New Year," he writes.
This year's Christmas tree is 12 meters tall, not 31, as it was last year. It is called the "Tree of Invincibility". The Christmas tree was decorated in the colors of the national flag, and the Ukrainian coat of arms was installed on its top. The Christmas tree was also decorated with energy-saving electric lights.

Context. Earlier, two petitions regarding the installation of the main Christmas tree in Kyiv appeared on the website of the Kyiv City Council. In one, residents of Kyiv insisted on installing a Christmas tree, and in the other, they asked not to install it.
