The number of cases of infection with the coronavirus strain Delta in Ukraine has increased to 17. The cases were recorded in Kyiv, Zakarpattia, and Lviv region, the country's Chief Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin said on the air of the TV channel Ukraine 24.
According to him, most of the cases were confirmed by PCR diagnostics, not sequencing. He also confirmed the death of one of the patients from the Delta strain, but clarified that the person had not been to Russia before that.
"In this case. He was a doctor by profession. He hadn't had any experience of traveling abroad in recent months. Therefore, this is the fact of contamination on the territory of the country—either in the line of duty, or at home," Kuzin stated.
Context. The day before, the director of the Oleksandrivska Hospital Liudmila Antonenko reported six infected with the Delta strain, four of them had recently returned from Russia.
In June, two people who returned from Russia were diagnosed with the Delta strain. At that time, WHO had already recognized the "Indian strain" as more dangerous and contagious.
