First death from Delta in Ukraine: Healthcare professionals warn of new outbreaks

The first person with the Delta coronavirus strain died in Ukraine, the director of the Oleksandrivska Hospital Liudmila Antonenko reported on the air of the TV channel Kyiv.

According to her, there were six people infected with the Delta strain in the hospital, four of them recently returned from Russia. Antonenko noted that the age of all patients is 30-40 years.

Healthcare professionals predict a worsening of the epidemic situation in Kyiv due to the Cross Procession, since many believers from Russia came to participate in it.

"I think there will be a very large increase in morbidity, so I want to emphasize once again that among the tested patients who came from Russia, all of them are positive for Delta. Therefore, if we witness such a Cross Procession, I think there will be a big increase in the incidence rate," Antonenko noted.

Context. In June, two people who returned from Russia were diagnosed with the Delta strain. At that time, WHO had already recognized the "Indian strain" as more dangerous and more contagious.
