Chips, MacBooks, and operating systems: What new products Apple presented at WWDC 2022

On Monday, June 6, Apple held its annual WWDC 2022 developer conference, during which it presented a lot of exciting new products, including the new macOS Ventura and iOS 16 operating systems, the M2 chip, and the new MacBook Air.

If you had no opportunity to watch the conference live, here's a list of Apple's most important announcements.

New generation chip M2

Apple showed the features of its new M2 chip that the company's computers will now be equipped with. The M2 GPU is 25% to 35% faster than the M1, with up to 100 GBps bandwidth, and supports up to 24 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, Speka reports.

New Macbook Air with new design

This device was the first to be equipped with the new M2 chip. The design of the laptop has also undergone changes. It will be available in four colors: silver, gray, gold, and navy blue. The screen is a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina with reduced bezels and a brightness of 500 nits (25% brighter than before). The new display now supports 1 billion colors.

The FaceTime HD webcam is capable of transmitting Full HD video. The Magic Keyboard features a full-height function row with Touch ID, as well as a Force Touch trackpad.

Price — from $1,199, on sale from July 2022. The price for MacBook Air with the M1 will start from $999.

New 13-inch MacBook Pro

Like the new MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro also obtained the M2 chip. It comes with up to 24 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage and offers up to 20 hours of battery life. It still has a touchpad. The new MacBook Pro is now available for pre-order starting at $1,299.

New operating system for computers — macOS Ventura

The OS beta version is already available for developers, the public beta for Mac users will be released in July 2022, and the official release will take place in the fall.

macOS Ventura will have a new Stage Manager mode. It allows you to sort open applications and windows on the side of the screen so that the user can focus on one large window. You can group windows and instantly switch between them. The new Continuity Camera feature lets you use your iPhone as a webcam.

iOS 16

The operating system for smartphones and tablets has obtained a new lock screen. You can place widgets in it, while there can be several lock screens (to switch between them, you just need to move them to the side). Apple is also releasing updates to the messages and the Focus feature.

iOS 16 has enhanced image editing features. The user can tap and hold the image to select an object on it separately from the background and paste it anywhere.

iOS 16 adds the possibility of editing any message a user sends to Messages, as well as reverting messages if they were sent mistakenly. Apple also gives you the option to mark a message as unread so you can easily find it later.

The new Apple Pay Later payment feature lets you split the cost of an Apple Pay purchase into four separate payments without interest or late fees.
